Tyler Perry has been consistently delivering $20 million plus box office films primarily targeting African American audiences, but does he actually have cross over appeal to cater to even wider mainstream audiences?

His formula up to this point normally fuses inner city African American characters with humor but executives at Lionsgate are reluctant to say whether they believe he has crossover ability.

There is no doubt that Tyler Perry is a great talent and has had much success and probably more to come but when is it time to abandon the normal routine and is it necessary to do this if you are almost guaranteed to always have your faithful audience watching?

In some cases African Americans in the business of entertainment have to walk a fine line between doing whatever it takes to be successful but also at some point being able to Woo more diverse audiences and also not selling out in the process.
